California Forecast: September Heat Wave to Bake SoCal

Soaring Temperatures Expected Across Southern California

Record-Breaking Heat Possible in Some Areas

A brutal heat wave is expected to grip Southern California beginning this weekend and lasting through the early part of next week.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an excessive heat warning for much of the region, including Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange counties.

Temperatures are forecast to reach the triple digits in many areas, with inland valleys likely to experience the most extreme heat.

The NWS has warned that this heat wave could be one of the most severe on record for September.

Impacts of the Heat Wave

  • Increased risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke
  • Power outages due to increased demand for electricity
  • Water shortages due to increased water usage
  • Wildfires, as dry vegetation becomes more susceptible to burning

Precautions to Take

  1. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, even if you don't feel thirsty
  2. Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day
  3. Check on elderly neighbors and relatives who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses
  4. Never leave children or pets unattended in a parked car
  5. If you start to feel symptoms of heat-related illness, such as dizziness, nausea, or vomiting, seek medical attention immediately
