Project Overview

The REWARD (Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development) project is a World Bank-assisted watershed development program being implemented from 2021 to 2026. This project aims to enhance agricultural resilience through sustainable watershed management practices in India.

Key Features

The REWARD project is a collaborative effort between the World Bank, the Government of India, and the State Governments of Karnataka and Odisha. It has received funding of USD 115 million (INR 869 crore) from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).

The project focuses on the following key areas:

  • Watershed management: Implementing soil and water conservation measures, such as terracing, contour bunding, and rainwater harvesting.
  • Agriculture development: Promoting sustainable farming practices, including crop diversification, improved irrigation techniques, and access to agricultural inputs.
  • Community engagement: Fostering participation of local communities in project implementation and ensuring long-term sustainability.
